Peace in Gaza
Ahmad R Tahari, a West Asian political analyst, discussed the possibility of peace process in Gaza in an interview with Hayat’s political reporter.
He emphasized over the complexity of the situation in Gaza, noting that there have been ongoing negotiations and efforts to achieve peace, but given the present circumestances and actors in the region, the prospect of peace seems unlikely. Taheri stated that the future of a long-term ceasefire depends on various factors and conditions, such as willingness of the Israelis and Hamas to participate in peace talks and the role of regional and global actors.
Ahmad R Taheri added, however, there is no guarantee that attacks will not resume after the ceasefire, but stressed that strong international pressure, particularly from countries like the United States and other Western powers, could play a crucial role in preventing Israeli attacks and promoting the possibility of a ceasefire. However, he continued, the question is that whether Western powers have enough leverage to effectively put pressure on Israel? Taheri also stated that a ceasefire agreement in Gaza could potentially delay or prevent Iran’s retaliation against Israel for Haniyeh’s assassination, as Iran seeks to establish peace in the region too.
