Women in Sistan & Baluchestan: Tradition & Modernity

A scholarly symposium entitled “The Social Life Experience of Women in Sistan and Baluchestan at the Intersection of Tradition and Modernity” was convened by TECODH on September 29, 2025, at the Conference Hall of the Provincial Archives and National Library of Sistan and Balochestan in Zahedan.

The symposium brought together a group of educated women and social activists from the province, with the primary objective of exploring the position of women in Sistan and Baluchestan within the framework of contemporary social transformations and their dynamic relationship with both tradition and modernity. Participants engaged in critical reflection, presenting analyses and personal insights on the multifaceted dimensions of women’s social life in the region.

The central themes of discussion encompassed the role of tradition in shaping Baloch women’s identity, the opportunities and challenges arising from encounters with modernity, women’s access to higher education, their involvement in social and managerial spheres, as well as the negotiation between indigenous values and emerging societal changes. Each speaker highlighted the importance of synthesizing traditional and modern capacities, offering perspectives that critically examined existing conditions while proposing avenues for future engagement.

The session was organized by TECODH (a private think tank) on September 29, 2025, in Zahedan.
